Description
Honey pills are made from herb powders that are mixed with honey and then kneaded and formed into pills. They are usually the size of a green pea (classical literature refers to this size as 梧桐子大 or “as large as a phoenix tree seed”) and are intended to be chewed and swallowed. In the case of Empirical Health Pearls, the pills are made in small batches with carefully selected herbs, made according to one of the foundational Chinese herbalism texts, the Shāng Hán Zá Bìng Lùn.
Bao He Wan
We carry two types of honey pearl supplements. The first is called Bao He Wan. Bao He Wan means Preserve Harmony Pill, and is used to move food stagnation in the stomach. Symptoms of this are:
- Indigestion with abdominal bloating and fullness
- Possible intermittent abdominal pain
- Acid regurgitation, belching or nausea
- Constipation or diarrhea
All basically symptoms of overeating and over-drinking. I always have this formula on hand at Thanksgiving, and can be a save when traveling.
This is a very general formula good for anybody who gets these symptoms occasionally. If you find this is something that happens every time you eat, you are better off getting an herbal consultation and getting an herbal prescription tailored to your specific needs.
Shu Yu Wan
The second honey pill formula we carry is called Shu Yu Wan, and this is known as the herbal multi-vitamin. They say it treats the “1000 deseases caused by wind”, and is a general tonic. It’s a formula that has many herbs, which address many different things. It has herbs that:
- improve immunity
- aid digestion
- build blood
- clear excess fluids
- and increase energy
This is a good one for people who feel like they have a slightly weaker constitution, maybe catch colds often, feel tired and cold, sweat easily. Again, if any of these symptoms are extreme, something stronger and more specific to you would be indicated.
